Comfort Food

Comfort food is many things, isn't it? Sometimes you forget a comfort food - not having it for awhile, but when you take a bite, you are suddenly thrown back into a good memory or a comfortable place and you savor it (both the food and the feeling.)

My mom and dad came up to visit for a whirlwind visit and brought food with them, of course. They brought the obligatory family cookies which we always eat on Christmas morning. They are "Welsh Cookie" and have currants in them and are very plain and "baked" on a griddle like pancakes. They are perfect with coffee.
Dad also brought some soup. He brought split pea soup. And my first taste reminded me how much I like this gawd-awful looking soup. It's not something I've made, nor is it on the menu when we go out to eat, but boy howdy, YUM! I sure missed it. It also helps that each bite is well seasoned with chunks of ham.

Thanks Dad!

Please post his recipe. I adore split pea soup, and have actually made it from time to time.

Also, the Welsh cookies? Divine!
